G. A. C. HERKLOTS

DISTRIBUTION :-Moist regions in Ceylon, India, Burmah and South China. COLOUR OF FLOWERS:-The colour of the flowers of this species found locally varies somewhat. The perianth segments may be cream coloured or very pale rose. The labellum is yellow in the centre with deep violet veins on the inside; the labellum is so thick that the colour of the veins scarcely shows through to the outside. The ovary is yellowish green.

LOCAL DISTRIBUTION :-Though it cannot be said that this is a very common orchid in the Hong Kong Territories yet it is widely distributed. It grows on grassy banks in fairly damp localities in the open or in partial shade. It has been recorded from Mount Nicholson, in a ravine behind Repulse Bay, south of Mount Cameron common, near Shek O, on the south side of the Kowloon range of hills, on the Hunchbacks, and elsewhere. It shows no marked preference for any particular altitude.
